Christmas is seen as a time for exchanging gifts on the basis of the medieval legend that baby Jesus was given gifts when he was an infant. In the early days, presents came in modest forms, which included cakes, fruits, nuts, dolls and clothing. Your typical christmas present today may range from cookies to toys, simple cards to expensive liquor. The content of the gift is not of any real significance but instead, the act and willingness to participate in the exchanging of gifts is of absolute importance and relevance to the jovial spirit of Christmas.
What Happens During Boxing Day?
According to the custom of medieval churches, Boxing Day is the day the church would open their charity boxes and distribute its contents amongst the poor.
This tradition still continues today in that small presents are often given to delivery workers such as postal staff. Boxing Day is also religiously seen by kids as the day of unwrapping the gifts they had collected the night before.
To the people today, Christmas
Day is a timeless favourite for giving,
feasting and merry-making :)
